ESPACE FXMME – GETTING SOFTER (STITCH’ N BITCH WORKSHOP) @FESTIVAL VAN DE GELIJKHEID
Espace Fxmme te gast bij FESTIVAL VAN DE GELIJKHEID (Gent) georganiseerd door Curieus vzw.
Op 15, 16 en 17 december 2022 strijkt Curieus opnieuw neer in Gent voor de achtste editie van dit feest voor hoofd en hart. Drie dagen lang naar streven we naar gelijkheid, diversiteit en verbondenheid, met een programma vol panels, sofababbels, explainers, docu, muziek, workshops, poëzie, inspiratie, illustratie, theater, performance, …
Doe mee op 15 december aan de Stitch’ n Bitch Workshop met Espace Fxmme (8pm – 9:30 pm) bij viernulvier -> Dansstudio (adres: Sint Pietersnieuwstraat 23, 8000 Gent). Het is gratis en zonder inschrijvingen.
Samen borduren we hijabs met feministische leuzen. Met deze editie gaan we met trots naast vrouwen in Iran staan die strijden tegen de verplichte hijab en voor de autonomie van hun lichaam (naast hun andere vragen voor keuzevrijheid en gelijkheid). Schuif bij aan tafel, neem naald en draad in de hand en breng je berichten of gezangen mee die je naar vrouwen in Iran wil sturen als teken van solidariteit.

Deze workshop wordt georganiseerd in aansluiting op de traject Getting Softer.
In het kader van het project ‘Getting Softer‘ oefent Espace Fxmme sinds november 2021 weven, borduren en patchwork maken als een proces van het delen van vaardigheden, herinneringen en verhalen van onze lichamen in diaspora/verhuizingen. We zijn er trots op hoe het proces van weven en borduren ook een sterk zusterschap onder ons kan creëren en ons laat voelen als een gemeenschap die uitnodigend kan zijn en uitgenodigd wordt om te delen en te leren. Sinds vorig jaar zijn de leden van Espace Fxmme bij verschillende gelegenheden als gastheer opgetreden en afgereisd naar verschillende plaatsen in en buiten België, waar ze hun naalden en draden deelden met anderen om zusterschap te naaien terwijl ze verhalen uitwisselden en samen het gevoel van vreugde, genezing en solidariteit beleefden. In het proces van co-creatie is onze kleine gemeenschap van gemengde afkomst een gebaar van transnationale feminisme dat een noodzaak is in deze wereld die massale migratie en globalisering ervaart. Onze steken zijn klein maar belangrijk in de strijd tegen het marginaliseren, controleren of negeren van vrouwen en niet-binaire lichamen.

Espace Fxmme guest at FESTIVAL OF THE EQUALITY (Ghent) organized by Curieus vzw.

For three days we strive for equality, diversity and connectedness, with a program full of panels, sofababs, explainers, docu, music, workshops, poetry, inspiration, illustration, theater, performance, …

Together we embroider hijabs with feminist slogans. With this edition, we proudly stand alongside women in Iran who are fighting against the mandatory hijab and for the autonomy of their bodies (among their other demands for freedom of choice and equality). Join us at the table, take needle and thread in hand and bring your messages or chants that you would like to send to women in Iran as a sign of solidarity.
The workshop will connect with “Bar Univers’elle,” a monthly meeting moment between Ghent women where meeting and exchanging on social issues is central.
This workshop is organized as part of Getting Softer trajectory.

In the frame of ‘Getting Softer’ project, since November 2021, Espace Fxmme is practicing weaving, embroidery and patchwork making as a process of sharing skills, memories and stories of our bodies in diaspora/moves. We are proud of how the process of weaving and stitching could also create a strong sisterhood among us and let us feel as a community that can be inviting and being invited to share and learn. Since last year, on various occasions, Espace Fxmme members have hosted and traveled to various places, inside and outside of Belgium, where they share their needles and threads with others to stitch sisterhood while they share stories, and experience the feeling(s) of joy, healing, and solidarity together. In process of co-creations, our small community of mixed origins is a gesture of transnational feminist which is a necessity in this world that experiencing mass migration and globalization. Our stitches are small but important to fight marginalizing, controlling or ignoring women and non-binaries bodies.
