AFA GOES Kinshasa (N)Tóngá

Op 5 november gaat Art For All naar Kinshasa (N)Tóngá (Kanal Centre Pompidou).

Kinshasa (N)tóngá schetst een eigenzinnig beeld van de Congolese hoofdstad, haar ontwikkeling en stedelijke structuur. (N)tóngá, dat zoveel betekent als ‘naald’ of ‘bouwwerf’ in het Lingala, verwijst naar het informele karakter dat haar evolutie tot vandaag kenmerkt. De impact van het kolonialisme en de invloed ervan op de architectuur van de op twee na grootste stad van het Afrikaanse continent staan centraal in de tentoonstelling. In hun werk verbeelden de kunstenaars werkwijzen en productieprocessen die de inwoners in staat stellen in te gaan tegen een opgelegde manier van bouwen aan de stad en haar identiteit.

On November 5, Art For All goes to Kinshasa (N)Tóngá (Kanal Centre Pompidou).

Kinshasa (N)tóngá presents a unique vision of the Congolese capital, its development, and its urban structure. (N)tóngá means “needle” or “construction site” in Lingala and therefore refers to the informal course that characterises Kinshasa’s evolution to date. The impact of colonialism and the influence it has had on the architecture of the third largest city on the African continent are the focus of the exhibition. The featured artists depict the working methods and production processes that allow the people of Kinshasa to go against an imposed vision of the city and its identity.
