AFA GOES De wereld van Apu

Op 17 februari gaat Art For All naar De wereld van Apu.

De arme student Apu gaat met zijn vriend Pulu naar een bruiloft van diens nicht, maar de bruidegom blijkt zo gek als een deur te zijn. Omdat het ongeluk zou brengen als ze niet precies op die dag trouwt, offert Apu zich op: hij trouwt wel met Aparna, een dochter uit een rijke familie. Maar zal ze kunnen wennen aan een leven zonder luxe? Prachtig derde deel uit een trilogie van autodidact
Ray, waarmee hij de filmwereld in India op zijn kop zette. Beeldschoon geschoten, sterk geacteerd drama, over liefde, het noodlot en het leven zelf. Met muziek van de toen nog niet zo bekende Ravi Shankar.

The poor student Apu goes with his friend Pulu to a wedding of his cousin, but the groom turns out to be mad as a hatter. Because it would be bad luck if she did not marry on that very day, Apu sacrifices himself: he does marry Aparna, a daughter from a wealthy family. But will she be able to get used to a life without luxury? Wonderful third part of a trilogy by self-taught Ray, with which he rocked the film world in India. Beautifully shot, strongly acted drama, about love, fate and life itself. With music by the then little-known Ravi Shankar.
