Fareed Aziz
Fareed Aziz is a mixed-media visual and oral storyteller who was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. Trained as an architect and builder, he possesses a profound passion for and curiosity about the world of crafts and artisans. His diverse body of work includes journaling, collage making, printmaking, illustration, sculpture, video documentation, and the creation of installations. When telling a story, he experiments with various mediums to engage viewers and offer them unique experiences.
After earning his bachelor’s degree in Cairo in 2017, he gained professional experience as an architect until 2021, working in Egypt, Vietnam, and Hong Kong. He then moved to Belgium to further his artistic career by pursuing a master’s degree in Fine Arts at Sint Lucas Antwerp.
Over the last four years, he delved into his interests and redefined his understanding of home. This exploration ignited a genuine passion for the concepts of storytelling and oral history, as well as the definitions of home and craft as a universal language. He believes that crafts and the stories of artists and artisans make significant contributions to contemporary discussions surrounding identity, migration, and the redefinition of home in an increasingly globalized world. His work focuses on discovering ways to tell stories and express the concepts of home and shared humanity through a variety of media.
