Through the artistic workplace, Globe Aroma supports artists by providing them with a space to work and think, access to tools, and a professional network in the art field. Globe Aroma specifically works with people who need to seek international protection: refugees, asylum seekers, people in exile,…who, due to their precarious citizenship status, may face particular obstacles in accessing the art field and engaging in artistic activities.

To become part of the artistic workplace, we encourage artists to reach out to Globe Aroma to discuss with the team and co-design a tailored trajectory.

MOBILE WORKSTATION IN CO-WORKSPACE

As a new artist at Globe Aroma, people are invited to work in the co-working space. This is a mobile, versatile area where artists can use shared art supplies to test techniques, experiment, and meet others during intensive workshops. This space acts as a membrane, facilitating the introduction of artists to Globe Aroma and vice versa. We place great value on working in close proximity, meaning sharing space and time together by working creatively.

During this period (time can vary from person to person), we encourage artists to participate in Art For All activities to enrich their practice and begin establishing connections with others active in the cultural field in Brussels, whether as cultural workers or spectators.

Artists in the open co-working space have access to info-sessions (i.e. ‘how to pitch your art practice’, ‘how to price artworks’ or ‘how to get remunerated as an artist in Belgium’) alongside artists in the fixed workstations, as well as participation in collective gatherings such as Atelier Assemblée.

FIXED WORKSTATION IN ATELIER/REHEARSAL SPACE

After an initial phase in the co-working space, artists whose practice can be supported more structurally by Globe Aroma are offered a fixed workstation in the atelier and access to the rehearsal space. Here, we aim to provide the environment and conditions necessary for artists and musicians to grow professionally.

As an artist in the dedicated space, artists have a personal corner in the atelier on the 1st floor, one can count on support in compiling portfolios and applying to open calls, access to specific tools and materials, and the opportunity to participate in collective projects such as Soft Apero or Sea is for Story, Tea is for Telling

The dedicated space operates in 6-month cycles, with a maximum duration of 2 years. Every 6 months, each artist, together with the team, reassesses their needs and ambitions, getting reconfirmed their stay in the dedicated space. After the 2 years, artists stay in the cosmos of Globe Aroma as satellite artists.

SATELLITE ARTISTS

Satellite artists are those who have previously accessed the dedicated or co-working space and no longer require a dedicated space or have moved outside Brussels and cannot regularly visit Globe Aroma. We maintain contact with these artists, sharing work opportunities, visibility, and, when possible, training opportunities. They are always welcome to use our co-working space.

HOW WE WORK

Globe Aroma is not an exhibition space but rather a workplace. As part of our support to artists in the dedicated space, we support in seeking exhibition and sales opportunities outside Globe Aroma.

The open co-working space and atelier/rehearsal space operate on the values of sharing and collective maintenance. Supplies and space are shared and need to be cared for collectively by the team, artists, and volunteers.

Globe Aroma works with artists, not for artists. Artists wishing to join the artistic workplace are invited to commit to these values and participate in collective discussions (Atelier Assemblée) and cleaning days.

WHO CAN JOIN?

We support artists working in the visual arts field (for example drawing, painting, installation, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, jewelry, textile,…). The support we offer is described above.

Artists with a photographic, video, or audiovisual practice are welcome to use our spaces and network. However, we currently have a limited media lab at your disposal (Adobe package, camera, graphic tablet).

Artists with a dance, theater, or performance practice can use our rehearsal space. We mainly support performative practices at an early stage.
