AFA goes to Mostafa Derkaoui

Mostafa Derkaoui is a Moroccan director born in 1944 in Oujda. He studied film in France and Poland.

“About some meaningless events” is a documentary film officially screened only once in Paris in 1974 and immediately censored thereafter. Despite the lifting of the ban 27 years later, the film was not re-screened until 2019 (in Berlin). The documentary follows a group of young filmmakers who interview the residents of Casablanca about their thoughts on Moroccan cinema. The film invites reflection on the role of cinema in society.
