On may 13, Art For All goes to Kunstenfestival Des Arts: Family Portrait.

Midori Kurata created this play after meeting an insurance broker. During Japan’s financial crisis, people ended their lives to obtain a payout from their life insurance policy for their families. The family in this Portrait has numerous desires: the daughter has wanted to take dance classes for years, the mother dreams of an electric bike, the son wants to study photography. While the salesman lists the benefits of cashing in 5 million yen on the father’s death, they form tableaux vivants of family life that keep falling apart. The daughter is still a teenager, but we see her older version (finally!) dancing The Nutcracker. The rhythm of Tchaikovsky’s music sounds as compelling as the estate agent’s sales pitch.

We meet up with the group at Globe Aroma at 18h30.
