‘Queen of the Sewing Machine’ Salimata Conde sees fashion and sewing as a form of self-empowerment:
“When it became clear that I couldn’t go to school, I turned to fashion as my plan B. To be useful, but also to take control of my life. Although it was my second option, I actually started to love it. It became my way of supporting myself and making my own plan for life.”
Salimata creates beautiful handmade and custom designs for important occasions, but she also experiments with more ready-to-wear designs.
