Wide open hands to cover and protect a body from an unknown threat. A gesture of caring, and a declaration of endurance mixed with fear.
Mothers travelling with their children in war times never know what will happen. They can only hold their babies tight in their arms. ‘A mother with child’, borrows elements from children’s drawings (flowers, teddy bear sketches) and combines them with the cruel portrait of a scene the artist witnessed (too) many times while travelling to Belgium.
