Tales from the First Floor: Waves of Clouds by Tatiana Zubieta / 7 Element Art

With “Waves of Clouds”, artist Tatiana Zubieta aka 7 Element Art once again explores the use of found materials and reflects on our shared responsibility toward the environment. One of her key approaches is reusing materials—giving objects a second life and transforming them into unique objects. For 7 Element Art, giving a second life to materials also acknowledges that they had a previous existence, one that she wishes to keep present within her creations.
In this work, 7 Element Art used plastic textiles derived from plastic pillow-making leftovers. She describes how the material itself seems to dictate how it wants to be used, folded, or manipulated. In a way, this dialogue with the material guides her creative process.
7 Element Art is interested in working with materials that appear to have a life and direction of their own—materials that cannot be fully controlled in their final form.
The work thus blurs the boundaries between techniques and media; in creating it, she experienced it as painting with textiles, collaging with plastics, and sculpting all at once.
