Ismail Matar and Mirra Markhaeva x Kunst&Zwalm

For the 2025 edition, Kunst & Zwalm—a biennial art route in the Zwalm region, this year curated by the PLAN B arts platform—has invited a series of artists to reflect on the theme of land. Among them are Ismail Matar and Mirra Markhaeva.
Matar presents the installation Ashes of Us, in which Arabic calligraphic letters rise from bricks and debris toward the sky like a phoenix.
Markhaeva, together with her collective The Post Collective, proposes the project Metaspora, which focuses on the journey of wheat in collaboration with the local water millers of the precolonial IJzerkotmolen (dating from 1412) on the Zwalm River.
