Huisfeest 2_website

Since 2020, we at Globe Aroma have been thinking a lot about bricks. It started with the rain that dripped inside, then our building in the Moutstraat was put up for sale, we were recognized as a ‘Broedplek’ (Flemish infrastructural fund), we teamed up with the Brussels and Flemish Government Architects and started collaborating with architects…

2025 will be a year to remember. A year in which we connect bricks with people. We have reached several milestones that we want to celebrate together with our community of artists, art lovers, partners, friends, governments, administrators, and investors.

WE BECOME OWNERS

In March, Globe Aroma officially became the owner of the building, with the support of the Flemish Community, a private fund, and a bank loan. With the purchase of the building, we not only strengthen our own operations but also those of several partner organizations (culture, education, migration, and welfare). We influence the social urban fabric and facilitate the integration of people on the run by uniting sectors instead of fragmenting them. Sharing space is essential here: Globe Aroma as a place where people can meet and where new networks are formed.

WE RENOVATE

In collaboration with KULeuven Department of Architecture (WA), the Flemish and Brussels City Architects, and New South Architects, we have started a project to renovate the building. This is urgently needed to keep the wind and rain out of the building, but also to better adapt the building for shared use in the future, including with our current housemates Terra Nova, Pigment, The Kitchen, and Compagnie Cordial. According to the current schedule, the first phase of the works will start in May.

WE IMAGINE COLLECTIVELY

In addition, we are excited to present the House for Collective Imagination. This project was born out of the desire to develop the renovation of the building in co-creation with all the daily users of the space. However, construction projects are subject to a very different speed than the pace of human work – especially when people are caught in exhausting asylum or family reunification procedures or feel nowhere at home, stuck between multiple countries. For this reason, we have set up a long-term project for collective imagination that we are excited to present to you at the House Party.
