Throwback: Toilet Design Week ‘How To Pee?’

Between May 13 and 17, 2025, we organized an intensive co-design week for the design of our new toilets.

As part of the upcoming renovations of our building, we launched the co-creative and discursive project How To Pee? in March. Through this initiative, we began mapping out the collective and intersectional needs for the toilet design. One of our methods included organizing walks to visit public toilets in Brussels, in collaboration with L’Architecture Qui Dégenre.

Using these conversations as a starting point, we worked with 10 members of Globe Aroma’s community to develop a design. To ensure a collective decision-making structure, we used consent-based methods and deep democracy.

Together, we discussed how ideas around gender, hygiene, privacy, and comfort impact the design, and how we could create a solution that considers a wide range of — often conflicting — habits and needs.

The final result was presented during a mini-exhibition on May 17, 2025.
