AFA goes to: Madou Sidiki Diabaté/ Aboubakar Traoré & Balima
The Diabaté family name is inseparably linked to the kora. Sidiki Diabaté recorded the first kora album in 1970 and Toumani Diabaté, who passed away in 2024, toured the world as ambassador of the instrument, as far as Bozar. This time it is his brother, Madou Sidiki Diabaté who graces the poster of the Kora Days 2025. He is already the 71st generation to play the kora and will kick off the evening with a captivating solo set.
Then Aboubakar Traoré joins him on stage with the ngoni, another captivating African stringed instrument. The Brussels-based singer-musician brings along his fantastic band Balima to kick off the party, which mixes West African traditional music with jazz, rock and hip-hop. Temperatures in Bozar have never been so high before.
