HAMADA ELKEPT X EYE ON PALESTINE

Eye On Palestine brings together with the exhibition EVOCATION four Palestinian visual artists from Gaza, currently residing in Europe, each responding in their own way to the situation in their homeland. Discover the work of Hamada Elkept, an artist active in the Artistic Workplace of Globe Aroma.
The exhibition draws together profound works by four Gazan artists currently residing in Europe which address and respond to the situation in their homeland. They are Malak Mattar (based in the UK), Hamada Elkept (Belgium) and May Murad and Hani Zurob (both France).
Few can be unaware of the often-desperate situation in which Gaza and Gazans are obliged to live out their lives, experiencing quite unique levels of danger and bearing the sores of long historical injustice. This exhibition showcases the differing approaches these Gazan artists have taken to confronting and representing the competing themes of affection, displacement, regret, isolation, unfairness, and by-no-means forgetting the crucial ingredient of hope for a better future, which rule the lives, memories and wishes of every Gazan. Each artist reaches his or her own resolution to these themes, finding a path between them all. No doubt each work possesses its own power to shock or discomfit the viewer; but no one can surely expect otherwise. And ultimately, despite the tortuousness of the remembered experience, it is the transcendent hope which surely triumphs — which the true vibrancy of the works on display vividly underscores.
Vernissage: Friday 24 April 18:00
Opening hours: Fridays 17:00 to 20:00 / Saturdays and Sundays 11:00 to 18:00
End: Sunday 10 May
