Whats A Reception

***BECOME PART OF GLOBE AROMA’S COMMUNITY OF DESIGNERS***

What does hospitality look, feel, and smell like beyond the notion of a physical reception desk?

Once a week, from September to December 2026, Globe Aroma brings together designers living in displacement – including people interested in art, graphic design, architecture, creative writing, storytelling, and world-building – to explore what “arriving” in a public building could look, feel, and smell like.

No experience in design or art is required, only enthusiasm for working and exchanging with others.

Through a series of creative ateliers, we will explore:

  • What symbols and gestures make people feel welcome?
  • What is the role of a reception, and how can it transform into a broader space of hospitality?
  • How do reception spaces create thresholds for people to enter?
  • What does an entrance look like when it is designed from care rather than control?
  • Who welcomes whom, and how?
  • What information is communicated upon entering, and how? In which languages and through what graphic identity?

This program is part of the collective design process for Globe Aroma’s building project, The House for Collective Imagination. The stories and imaginations we create together will help shape the participatory design of our future hospitality space.
