The Sonic Sessions Residency is an exchange program centered on electronic music and designed to offer expertise, a rehearsal space and a platform to musical talent originating from the SWANA now based in Belgium. Participants will have access to the music space at Globe Aroma, facilitating collaborative efforts, rehearsals, workshops, talks and meetings. The program will culminate in a concert by the participating musicians held in February 2025, serving as a platform for the participants to present their collaborative works to a live audience.<\/p>\n
The Sonic Sessions Residency is a two-month creative journey (from December 2024 to February 2025) that invites three electronic musicians to explore the political dimensions of music production. This residency aims at challenging and expanding how music can serve as a political tool\u2014a way to assert identity and express one\u2019s relationship to personal and communal histories.<\/p>\n
Through collaborative sessions, workshops, and reflective discussions, participants will explore together how music production can become a process of solidarity, revealing ways to address the cultural and political. Additionally, they will go into the depths of reinforcing one\u2019s cultural and political identity through sound, integrating influences from traditional revolutionary music into their own creations.<\/p>\n
The participating artists in the first edition of Sonic Sessions Residency<\/strong><\/p>\n Kamel Badarneh (SAWT)<\/b> With five EPs released, SAWT has aroused dancefloors all around Belgium but also abroad: Spain, Austria, Germany, Turkey, France, Morocco and undoubtedly Palestine. Among Jadam\u2019s notable projects is Maltash, his solo venture where his signature style comes to life in full force. He is also an active collaborator, working with Othman Cherradi in the project Araf, which explores ambient and mystical textures, and with Freya Edmondes in Avril Spleen, which delves into melancholic and introspective soundscapes. Through these collaborations and his solo work, Jadam’s music finds expression across several respected labels, including Opal Tapes, Tartarus Tapes, Modular Mind, and Antibody.<\/p>\n Nazanin Yalda<\/b> A graduate of the Tehran school of music, she came to France to continue her studies at the CRR in Paris, after obtaining her diploma, she pursued further studies at the Royal conservatory of Brussels, where she obtained two master\u2019s degrees with high distinction in classical piano and chamber music.<\/p>\n She is the co-founder of the groups Flo\u00e8mee, an Iranian electronic band, and Xilema Duo, a piano four-hands group.<\/p>\n She is driven by a fascination with color and symbiosis in the arts, exploring how different worlds and traditions can combine to create something new or coexist in a way that enriches them.<\/p>\n
\nSAWT (Arabic for sound) is the alias of Palestinian Brussels-based electronic music producer Kamel Badarneh. Wandering through the realms of Techno, Ambient and Experimental music, SAWT seeks to dissolve the boundaries between these genres and aims to discover a sonic range where they intertwine harmoniously. The core of his music consists of an ongoing deep research towards a unique sound signature; field recordings, analogue machines and sound design techniques are his main tools to achieve this.<\/p>\n

\nNazanin Yalda is an Iranian musician and composer based in Brussels. Her musical journey began at the age of 10 with piano and voice. Later, she explored Iran\u2019s rich Dastgah tradition through her instrument S\u00e9t\u0101r.<\/p>\n
